Dear Alumni and Friends,

At the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, we believe that everyone, everywhere, deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life, and that no one should be the victim of preventable disease, injury, or premature death.

Thanks to your investments in the form of annual gifts, we are having an impact and making a difference in improving the health of our communities, locally, nationally and around the globe.

As you think about your own personal reasons for giving back, I urge you to be generous in your support. Your gifts are making a difference in our ability to educate and develop the public health leaders of tomorrow; to conduct rigorous research and use the answers to drive action in policy-making; and to serve as a resource of knowledge and expertise for you, your community, state and local governments, and for public health practitioners around the globe.

Your annual gift makes a powerful statement about your connection to your alma mater and to your commitment to the public's health. This coming year we have an ambitious goal to raise $350,000 in gifts from our alumni and to raise alumni participation to 1100 graduates. We invite you to be a part of this effort by making a generous personal gift before June 30, 2009.

On behalf of the faculty, students, staff, alumni and our volunteer friends, I extend our warmest thanks.

Sincerely,

Stephen M. Shortell, Ph.D., M.PH., M.B.A.
